Cairo has decided to stop importing poultry and poultry products, in a move aimed at supporting
producers in Egypt, in light of the low prices of poultry products in the local market and the
decline in purchasing power after Eid al-Adha.
Union President Nabil Darwish said after the meeting that the political leadership is keen to face
the current crisis and protect the Egyptian poultry industry from its possible repercussions.
Darwish added that the meeting concluded:
– Stop importing all poultry domestic products and poultry plants, to direct the entire local market
capacity to consume the local product exclusively after low demand.
– Directing all ministries and agencies in the Egyptian state to manage their full needs from the
local market to support and develop the Egyptian poultry industry, and the publication of
specifications is under way so that all poultry producers can contract with slaughterhouses and
supply the required quantities after contracting with the requesting authorities,
– Communication with the governorates of Cairo, Giza, Alexandria and Qalyubia to provide 200
outlets for domestic products to reduce the price gap between the product and the consumer,
and 200 outlets were agreed as a start to expand vertically and horizontally in accordance with
the requests of producers and most of these centers belong to the authority Army.
