The European human rights organization condemned, on Monday, the policies of the Israeli occupation in the West Bank, represented by repeated incursions and attacks on civilians, “without any consideration for preventive measures, and in complete disregard of the risks of spreading the infection with the emerging coronavirus; and the outbreak in Israel.”
Euro–Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor for Human Rights (Geneva-based) said in a statement: “We are following with great concern reports of suspicious behavior of Israeli soldiers and settlers, during the incursions.”
It’s continued, “Among these behaviors: spitting towards parked cars, automated teller machines and shop locks, which raises fears of deliberate attempts to spread the infection with the virus and provoke panic within Palestinian society.”
The statement, quoting the organization’s regional director for the Middle East and North Africa, Anas Jerjawi, as saying, “The suspicious practices of the Israeli forces during the storming of Palestinian cities would strengthen the assumptions of the hostile view of the Israeli army and settlers against the Palestinian population.”
He added that “the Israeli incursions have a dangerous role in raising the possibility of spreading infection among the Palestinian population, as each storming operation represents a potential risk of spreading the virus in the Palestinian areas.”
Human rights organization: the Israeli occupation ignores the threat of the spread of “Corona”
On Monday, the number of people infected with the Coronavirus in Israel reached 4,347, including Israeli soldiers, while the number of deaths reached 16.
The organization has documented some 207 incursions into cities in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, since the Palestinian government declared an emergency on March 6.
The organization pointed out that the incursions were punished by the arrest of “about 191 Palestinians, assaulting dozens of others, and carrying out demolitions of Palestinian homes, where the majority of those operations took place without taking any preventive measures and without the soldiers wearing appropriate clothes to prevent infection with the virus.”
The human rights organization also monitored 19 infiltrations by Israeli settlers, into Palestinian neighborhoods, which included attacks on residents and their property.
On the other hand, the organization stated that on March 26, the Israeli army confiscated 8 tents in the northern Jordan Valley, east of the West Bank, “two of them were equipped as a health clinic, and 4 as a haven for citizens in an emergency.”
“While all countries are keen to secure and increase health equipment and supplies to prevent the spread of the epidemic, Israel confiscates these tents and these practices pose a public health threat and a real threat to spread the infection with the virus,” the organization said.
It’s pointed out that the death in the Palestinian territories was a woman who had been infected by her son, who works in Israel.
The observatory pointed out that a large number of the injured Palestinians were infected during work in Israel or the settlements.
As of Monday, 115 persons were infected with the Corona virus, including 9 from Gaza Strip.
